[myoss] A lack of programmers?

I've been looking for a PHP programmer to hire full time the past two months, 
and every one who has showed up is umm... less than ideal to say the least. 
Speaking to my boss, he said that he experienced a similar situation when he 
was looking for java programmers a couple of years ago.

Every student of CompSci I've known ends up working in every other field 
except programming...

Is there a lack of programmers, or is there something larger at work in 
Malaysia?
